Kids in Control Residencies
Polyglot’s Kids In Control Residencies are creative processes which culminate in a unique, site-specific interactive event reflecting the ideas and artwork of children.
The process works on a number of different scales and lasts anything from two days to six months, ending in a celebratory event which showcases the children’s work to their community and families.
With everything that we create Polyglot engages children as collaborators in the creation of relevant and resonant work for contemporary childhood. Our artists work alongside children to gain the benefit of their insight and energy, to challenge their adult preconceptions of what children think and how they act and to be inspired by their ease of imaginative engagement. In turn the children are given attention and respect by the artists, made to feel their contributions are valid and interesting and are part of a project that has a horizon often bigger than their own school community.
Findings from City of Riddles evaluation report – Author Ricci-Jane Adams. 2010
That the dedicated and sustained focus of the Polyglot artists as they interacted with students and listened to their offerings, as partners in the artistic process, is the single most valuable contribution that the creative workshop process made to increase the individual child’s confidence in his or her creative expression. Collaboration with professional artists gave the students a sense of esteem and individual worth.
